Here at Mrs. Peacock HQ, we're proud to have been purveyors of badly-written comedy songs since about 1999.
In case you haven't gotten the gist, Simon Sweetman doesn't like us very much. But we're comforted by the fact that he doesn't seem to like much else about NZ comedy either (particularly not the female comedians, who are apparently "interchangeable").
If you're interested in seeing some female comedians during this year's comedy festival, then we recommend the thoroughly interchangeable Comediettes, whose show, we understand, consists primarily (95%) of references to their vaginas.
(Needless to say you should also come and see Monkey vs. Robot)
UPDATE #1: Completely forgot to mention another all-female show in the festival: A Guide to the Uncool, starring Heidi and Rose. Or is that Rose and Heidi? I'm not certain, as they're so interchangable I can barely tell them apart. Either way if you're in Auckland you should go see them. I'm not sure how often they talk about their parts but I bet it's a lot.
TJ McDonald (i.e. my partner in crime for the upcoming Monkey vs. Robot) just got a nice writeup as part of a longer review of First Laughs, the festival's opening bash.
"TJ MacDonald also merits a longer stint with his laconic observations – does he really love Secret Santa because he enjoys being the anonymous cause of someone else’s disappointment? Without wishing to inversely influence anyone’s shows, I encourage you to find out."
Good times. Needless to say we're both very excited.
First, the bad news: this year there won't be a full-noise mrs.peacock show in the NZ International Comedy Festival. Not officially, anyway - unofficially you may get your chance to see us... stay tuned for more details soon.
HOWEVER. Jarrod will be appearing in Monkey vs. Robot alongside TJ McDonald, whom you might know from Wellington sketch comedy troupe the Comedy Cure. Monkey vs. Robot will feature Jarrod and TJ doing around half an hour each (give or take) of the finest solo standup comedy they can muster in the remaining time available between now and May.

To the women I met at the Classic last night who wanted my "Levin" t-shirt: it looks like BilliTees no longer do them. Which is a shame because as of this morning I can attest that not only is it a stylish fashion item, but it also makes an excellent travel towel.
I feel that it's quite important to point out that this year's show will feature a smoke machine and a laser - turning it from merely awesome into something beyond awesome. Something transcendental. Something sublime.
Did I mention that we'll have a laser and a smoke machine?

We have it on good authority that tickets can now be booked for both our Auckland and Wellington seasons in the upcoming NZ International Comedy Festival 2008.
This year we're performing an original rock opera, with all-new songs and all-new awesomeness. You should really come along and see it.

We're on the road for the 2008 University Orientation tour, along with Jeremy Elwood, Cori Gonzalez-Macuer, and Steve Wrigley. Dates are to the right - feel free to come along if and when we get to your town.
We're also doing a few other shows while on tour, including a gig at Fat Eddies in Christchurch, and a few at the Classic in Auckland. Hopefully we'll see you there...
We're performing at the World Buskers Festival in Christchurch at the moment - and our gig on Tuesday night at the Sumner Standup Series in the Sumner Community Centre was reviewed in the Christchurch Press on Wednesday.
Given that we've continued to have full houses since then, I believe we might have found a quote for our Comedy Festival poster this year:

Tomorrow night (that's Saturday 23 June) at 9.30pm Maori Television will be screening a 2 hour special on this year's Billy T Awards.
We haven't seen it yet but we understand that as the winners of this year's award we should have a reasonably prominent role. So watch it, and stuff.
